Network Switches

Cloud-managed switching, no controller required.

Sophos Network Switches are cloud-managed Layer 2 and Layer 2+ switches that report into the same Sophos Central console as your firewall and access points. Zero-touch deployment, full PoE/PoE+ models, and unified policy across the full network stack with no on-prem controller hardware to maintain.

Key Capabilities

The switch your firewall and access points already know

If you’ve got Sophos Firewall and Sophos Wireless, the switch slots in next to them with shared policy, shared management, and shared visibility. No third console to learn.

Cloud-managed from Sophos Central

Configure VLANs, ports, QoS, and switching policy from the same web console you use for firewall and wireless. No on-prem controller hardware to license, patch, or replace.

Zero-touch deployment

Pre-configure the switch in Sophos Central, ship it to the site, the local installer plugs it in. The switch phones home, pulls its config, and is on the network in minutes.

PoE / PoE+ / PoE++

Power IP phones, cameras, wireless APs, and IoT devices over the same cabling. PoE+ models include power budgets sized for full-port loading on every port.

Layer 2+ features

VLANs, link aggregation (LAG/LACP), spanning-tree (STP/RSTP), QoS, port mirroring, and basic Layer 3 static routing for inter-VLAN routing where you don’t need a full L3 switch.

Synchronized with firewall

Switch port telemetry feeds into Sophos Central alongside firewall and endpoint data. A compromised host can be quarantined at its access port, automatically.

Built-in security

Port security (MAC limiting), 802.1X authentication, DHCP snooping, and dynamic ARP inspection close the LAN-side attack vectors that most cheap switches leave open.

Deep Dive

Zero-touch from box to production

Multi-site organizations spend disproportionate time on switch setup at each location. Sophos Network Switches turn that into a ten-minute remote process - even for sites with no on-site IT.

  • Pre-configure once. Build the switch template in Sophos Central: VLANs, port profiles, PoE policy, QoS, link aggregation. Save it as a re-usable template.
  • Ship to site. Pair the physical switch’s serial number with the right config in Central. Ship it to the office, the warehouse, the clinic, wherever.
  • Local installer plugs in two cables. Power and uplink. The switch boots, finds the internet, registers with Sophos Central, and pulls its config.
  • You verify remotely. Central shows the switch as online with the pre-built config applied. If something’s off, fix it remotely - no truck roll.

Who Deploys It

Where cloud-managed switching earns its place

Sophos Switch isn’t aimed at the data-center top-of-rack market. It’s built for environments where simple, central management beats traditional CLI-driven complexity.

1

Single-site SMBs

One office, one network, one IT generalist. Switch + Firewall + Wireless in one console is the difference between “manageable” and “another vendor to learn.”

One console for the whole stack
2

Multi-site organizations

Retail chains, distributed clinics, franchise networks. Cloud-managed switches let central IT push the same policy to dozens of sites without truck rolls or per-site configuration drift.

Consistent policy across sites
3

Education & healthcare

Lots of PoE devices (IP phones, classroom APs, exam-room cameras), strict VLAN segmentation, simple but auditable management. PoE+ models with full-port power budgets fit the use case exactly.

PoE-heavy, audit-friendly
Pairs Well With

The full Sophos network stack

Switching makes most sense as part of the broader Sophos Central infrastructure. These are the products it pairs with most often.

Sophos Firewall
Firewall

Sophos Firewall

The other side of the network stack. Switch + firewall share VLAN, policy, and Synchronized Security signals so a compromised host can be isolated at the switch port automatically.

Sophos Wireless Access Points
Wireless

Wireless Access Points

PoE+ access points draw power directly from a Sophos switch, configure from the same Central console, and share threat-aware policy with the rest of the stack.

Sophos NDR
Detection

Sophos NDR

Switches generate the east-west traffic that NDR analyzes. Together they give you continuous visibility on internal segments where most lateral movement actually happens.
